The 3rd-year student of specialty 5В011900 "Foreign language: two foreign languages" Anastassiya Drobotova passed оnDaF test at the beginning of October and proved that she has a good level of German language. She went through the competitive selection and was invited to the International German Winter School "German customs in Kazakhstan and in Germany" organized by DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) which took place from the 27th November to 4th of December 2016 in Almaty in Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU).
German courses were conducted by DAAD-lecturers from Germany: Elly Mack, Florian Tack, Stephan Kehl, Bartholomäus Minkowski and Theresa Fuchs. Mostly, attention was paid to development of speaking skills. In addition to the intensive German language course, there were meetings with the German Diaspora in Kazakhstan, with the support of the German Association of Kazakhstan "Revival" and the German Consulate General in Almaty.
The Winter School program was very intense and interesting. Besides lectures, seminars and practical exercises there were group projects and quizzes. Also there were some cultural and entertainment events: visiting the "German House", an informal meeting with German diaspora, a trip to Medeo, watching a film in German and others.
The International German Winter School gave a great opportunity to learn a lot of new about German customs and holidays, to get in touch with the culture, to find out its features, to develop speaking skills, to broaden horizon and make a lot of new friends from all over the Kazakhstan. Such kind of events strongly increases the motivation of students to study German language and culture.
