On 12 February, students of our French language club at the Department of Modern Languages and Translation Studies took part in the event of the Shymkent French Alliance, organised jointly with the Pushkin City Library under the captivating title ‘La France charmante’ - ‘Charming France’. It was dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the French writer René Guillot.  The meeting began with a video about the state reception in November 2024, hosted by the President of France E. Macron in honour of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.-J. Tokayev at the Elysee Palace in Paris, where the world famous singer Dimash Kudaibergen performed.

         The library staff also presented extensive information about the relations between France and Kazakhstan, famous representatives of Kazakhstan, who by the will of fate found themselves in France. For example, prominent Kazakh figure Mustafa Shokai, our fellow countrywoman Alla Ilchun, artists Ulan Merseidov, Grigory Ponomarenkov, who became a muse for famous French couturiers C. Dior and Yves-Saint Laurent. Also in connection with the 185th anniversary of the founder of French impressionism Claude Monet the library staff told about his work.

      The French Alliance students successfully presented a short play based on René Guillot's ‘Crin blanc’ - ‘The White Mane’. They surprised us with their acting skills and their ability to memorise very large parts in French. In addition, popular French songs ‘Belle’, ‘Je veux’, ‘Je t'aime’ and many others from the repertoires of many famous singers were sung. In general, the meeting was held in a very warm, friendly atmosphere and contributed to the growth of interest and motivation of students to learn French language and culture of this country.
