The main feature of the2020 academic year has been distance online learning.Despite the challenges of the global pandemic, cooperation in the field of education between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United States of America in making effective, optimal and prudent decisions in this unusual situation has continued actively.In this regard, the Regional Program Office of the English Language of the US Embassy in Kazakhstan and M.Auezov South Kazakhstan University, with the financial support of the US State Department, signed an agreement fora "Virtual English Language Fellow" program.The goal of the program is to improve practical English in academic groups, provide updated authentic content, and increase the importance of language and intercultural communication. Through this program, students can gain knowledge and master skills and abilities from a native English-speaking instructor. Currently, three study groups of the Department of English Linguistics, Faculty of Philology, conduct online courses under the guidance of Georgetown University grant winner Jess Edward Burden, who holds a Master of English degree. Classes are conducted using innovative methods and best practices in the disciplines "Analytical Reading" and "Professionally-oriented Foreign Language".Previously, Jess Burden taught at Nazarbayev University in Astana in 2018-19.During the spring semester, within the framework of the program "Virtual English Language Fellow,” seminars will be conductedso that teachers of the department can improve their qualifications.
